We hereby invite everyone to participate in presentation of the Project "Segredo e Memória na era da Informação", that will be held on the 31st October 2008, at 15 hours in FLUP.

In "the information age" the memory and knowledge appear to be
accessible to everyone and everything but, paradoxically, this opening, creates and amplifies areas of secrecy, and restriction of inaccessibility
to information. Different disciplinary views question the nature of
memory and place, the functions and modalities of secrecy in the
construction and preservation of memory (historical, social, literary,
philosophical, communication).

Secrecy and memory can be instruments of construction but can also deconstruct power relations, political exercise, diplomatic games, setting the identities of the storyline. Here are some of
the areas already under discussion:

* Knowledge and conspiracy (philosophy)
* Information and secrecy (information science)
* Media, memory and secret (communication sciences)
* Memory, secrecy and identity (story)
* The realism of the past (philosophy)
* Secrecy, memory and power (sociology)
* Secrecy and literature (literature)
* Epistemology of social sciences
